The Explorer Scout Section is for young people aged 14 to 18.

Units are run at District level, unlike the Venture Scout Units, which were run by local Scout Groups.

Cardiff's East and South District maintains five units. The local explorer unit for the young people of Pentwyn and Pontprennau is the 'Brave Dragons'. There is also a Young Leaders unit in the district which provides training for the many young leaders in the District.

The 1^st Pentwyn Scout Group maintains a Partnership Agreement with the Brave Dragons ESU. All young people between the ages of 14 and 18 are welcome to join the Unit.
